In 2009 I walked into my first Pilates certification with no idea it would consume the next 17 years of my life.
I was certified through Body Arts and Science International β one of the most comprehensive and rigorous programs in the Pilates industry. BASI doesn't just teach you exercises. It teaches you how the body works, how movement is connected, and why precision matters in every single cue you give.
From day one I was obsessed.
Not with the exercises. With the body underneath them.
Why does this person move this way? Why does that hip hike? Why does this client keep compensating no matter how many corrections I give?
Those questions never left me. And honestly β they're still the questions that drive everything inside the Function Pilates curriculum today.

Four years into teaching I realized I didn't know enough. My clients were getting results β but I kept hitting moments in sessions where I knew something was off and I didn't have the language or the framework to fully address it.
So in 2013 I got certified as a Postural Assessment Specialist through Egoscue University. And it changed everything about how I saw the body β and how I taught it.
That obsession became a methodology. In 2014 I founded Function Pilates β built from the ground up on the belief that movement education deserved to go further than the industry standard was willing to take it.
Here's what those early years actually taught me β
BASI certification β and the beginning of a lifelong obsession
The moment I realized Pilates wasn't just a workout β it was a language for understanding how the human body works. I was hooked from day one and I never looked back.
Postural Assessment Specialist β learning to read the body before it moves
Adding postural assessment to my practice changed everything. For the first time I wasn't just reacting to what I saw β I was reading the story the body was telling me before a single exercise began.
Founding Function Pilates β a declaration, not a rebrand
I stopped teaching other people's Pilates and started teaching mine. Function Pilates was built on five years of asking the questions no one else was asking β and refusing to settle for surface-level answers.
I share this because I want you to know β this program didn't come from a business plan. It came from a curiosity that never left.
What started as a single studio and a deep curiosity about the body has grown into three studio locations, a Teacher Training Academy, and a Master Trainer Licensing Program β where experienced instructors across the country are now licensed to teach the Function Pilates curriculum inside their own studios.
None of that was the plan in 2009. It was just the natural result of never stopping at good enough.
